  • Spreading Warmth and Kindness: 5th Graders at Louise White Elementary School Decorate “Cups of Kindness

At Louise White Elementary School (LWS), something heartwarming is brewing! Fifth-grade students are jazzing up coffee sleeves with fun designs and sweet messages for an outreach project called "Cups of Kindness."

With the guidance of their teachers, Mrs. Hartness, Mrs. Heisler, and Mrs. Neeley, and the support of a local business, the students have turned ordinary coffee cup sleeves into delightful works of art. Each sleeve was decorated with unique designs, from cheerful doodles to motivational quotes, all crafted with love and compassion. The sleeves were then distributed to Limestone Coffee and Tea in Batavia.

One of the participating students, Annabelle Schreiner, shared her thoughts on the project, saying, "I used words and pictures to decorate mine. I hope someone who is hurt or a friend will feel better after getting my cup." These sentiments echo the overarching goal of Cups of Kindness—to provide comfort and solace to those who may be going through a difficult time.

Likewise, Liam Perez expressed his intentions behind his artwork, stating, "I used lots of hearts and the words “Be Kind” on my cup. I hope someone who may have lost a family member would get one of our cups so they would feel better." Cameron Resch added his perspective: "I used Batavia colors and the paw logo on my cup. I hope someone going through a tough time gets one of our cups." These heartfelt messages illustrate the empathy and compassion the students instilled in their creations.

The students' dedication to spreading kindness extends beyond their artistic endeavors. Gia Wakileh said, "This project spread kindness not only to the people at Limestone but also to our class." Indeed, Cups of Kindness reminds them of the importance of empathy and unity within their community.

Leah and Joy, Owners of Limestone, said, “We were thrilled to accept the invitation to help the LWS students spread cheer and kindness in our community! Many customers shared how happy they were to receive the special coffee sleeve with their drink! We are so thankful to be located in such a wonderful community!”

Furthermore, the project has provided a valuable learning experience for the students. Working together to decorate the sleeves and send them to Limestone, they gain essential life skills such as creativity, teamwork, and leadership. Additionally, Cups of Kindness is a fresh start for their classrooms, fostering a renewed sense of kindness and compassion among their peers.

Overall, Cups of Kindness is a shining example of how simple acts of kindness can profoundly impact others. The 5th-grade students at Louise White Elementary School are brightening someone's day and inspiring others to spread kindness in their communities. Through their artwork and heartfelt messages, they are leaving a lasting imprint of positivity on the hearts of those around them. Indeed, kindness knows no bounds, and with each decorated sleeve, the students are making the world a brighter place, one cup at a time.
