(St. Charles) Vero Voce Theater presents “An Evening at the Opera!” two One-Act Comedic operas sung in English: Act I - Mozart’s The Impressario Act II - The Old Maid and the Thief, by Gian Carlo Menotti. Performances are Friday & Saturday, May 19 & 20 @ 7:30pm and Sunday May 21 @ 6pm. at the Vero Voce Theater, located at 951 State Avenue, Suite F, St Charles IL 60174 Vero Voce will open the evening with Mozart’s The Impresario, sung in English, a comedic parody on the vanity of two prima donnas, who argue over status and pay. Mozart himself called this work a comedy with music. The work will feature Lauren Freas (St Charles) as Madame Goldentrill, an aging opera star; Abageal Phelan (Geneva) as Miss Silverpeal, an aspirant opera star; Dan Keller (Aurora) as Mr. Angel, an elderly stage-struck financier; Liam McCarron (St Charles) as Mr. Bluff, the Impresario’s assistant; and Dennis Brown (St Charles) as Mr. Scruples, the old school Impresario. The Old Maid and the Thief is a radio opera in one act by Italian-American composer Gian Carlo Menotti. The work uses an English language libretto by the composer which tells a twisted tale of morals and evil womanly power. Menotti writes in the libretto "The devil couldn't do what a woman can- Make a thief out of an honest man." Both operas will be staged as radio shows to make up an evening of operatic entertainment for a live audience in a radio show setting. Directed by Dennis Brown (Vero Voce co-owner), the cast of professional singer/actors includes Marie Groh (Plainfield) as Miss Todd, Dawn Harkins (St Charles) as Letitia, Catherine Lord (St Charles) as Miss Pinkerton, Keith Brown (Interlochen, MI) as Bob, with pianist Richard Trost. Performer biographies are listed at www.verovoce.com/live-theatre/casting. Tickets are $28 Adult, $25 Senior (65+), $23 Student (with valid student ID) and may be purchased online at www.verovoce.com or by calling (630) 584-0139. Seating is limited. I am so thankful that a few of my fellow Batavian’s recommended the Batavia Chamber of Commerce to me. Since I joined I feel as though I have been blessed with a second family with all the support and motivation I get from them on a regular basis. Margaret, Patti and Shirley are the most amazing women. They have great passion for business and helping people. I truly feel they care about my business on a personal level and want to see it grow and succeed as much as I do! They have gone the extra mile to get my name and my business name out there and introduce me to the business community. The Chamber has so many opportunities available that have helped my business both grow and problem solve such as the free monthly Networking It events. I highly recommend the Batavia Chamber of Commerce to all business professionals.
