  • Batavia Chamber of Commerce to Honor Mary Anne Callahan

2022 Winner of the Donna Dallesasse Award

The Batavia Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce that the 2022 Donna Dallesasse Award winner is Mary Anne Callahan, a Batavian who works for Kuhn Counseling Center, P.C. and is an active board and committee volunteer for multiple Batavia organizations.

Every year, the Batavia Chamber holds a Harvest Celebration to gather community members together to celebrate one Chamber member that has displayed an outstanding commitment and dedication to the Chamber's mission, vision, and values. This member is recognized as the annual Donna Dallesasse Award recipient.

In her letter of nomination, Batavia Chamber of Commerce member Amberlyn Vaughan of Catalyst Physiotherapy, Performance, & Wellness, touted Mary Anne Callahan’s community commitment.

“She is a key member in our community and has been serving this city humbly for years,” wrote Ms. Vaughan. “As a member of the Well Batavia committee, she demonstrated that she is a crucial player for the wellbeing of this city.”

Her commitment to wellness is also evident in the active role she played in the development and marketing of the Batavia Counselors’ Collaboration, a group of local counselors who combined forces in 2020. Shortly after the COVID shutdown, the counselors partnered with the Batavia Chamber of Commerce to help the community during the pandemic, particularly with stress and mental health.

One important discovery was that no one organization had a substantial list of area resources, especially where to find mental health services. Thus, under the direction of Mary Anne, the Kane County Area Resources Guide was put together and is continually updated.

Margaret Perreault, president and CEO of the Batavia Chamber of Commerce said that Mary Anne Callahan’s selfless nature is evidenced by all she does.

“Mary Anne is the type of person that sees a need and steps up to help, much like Donna Dallesasse was known to do,” she explained. “Mary Anne displays such positive energy; it is a privilege to get to work with her. We are so pleased to honor her with this award.”

As to Ms. Callahan, she was “totally surprised” when she learned she was selected for the Donna Dallesasse Award by the Chamber’s board of directors, stating, “I am certainly appreciative, but there are so many others I would think are more qualified.”

A resident of Batavia since 2008, she is also on the board of directors for the Batavia Foundation of Educational Excellence and is a substitute teacher in the Batavia Public School District 101. Mary Anne and her husband, Marty, have three children in the district: Caitlin, a junior, and eighth-grade boys Alex and Nick.

Prior commitments had her volunteering for the PTO at Alice Gustafson Elementary, where she ran the book fair for many years. She is also active with the Fox Valley Entrepreneurship Center, a nonprofit organization that is passionate about helping businesses and entrepreneurs grow.

Maria Kuhn of Kuhn Counseling Center P.C. also sent in a letter of recommendation, echoing the thoughts of Ms. Vaughan’s nomination, writing, “While her efforts are often hidden in the background of a company or committee, I firmly believe that Mary Anne would be an excellent choice for the Donna Dallesasse Award. I have been amazed at her generosity and talents.”

This year marks the 16th year the Chamber has given the Donna Dallesasse Award. At the Harvest Celebration we will also hand out our Membership Milestone Awards, with four members receiving the 25-Year Award. We are thankful for their commitment to Batavia and in particular, the Batavia business community that the Batavia Chamber supports. Those receiving the 25-Year Milestone are the Batavia Avenue Mobil, First State Bank, Kluber Architects + Engineers, and Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital.

Chamber members and the public are invited to the Harvest Celebration to join in celebrating the contributions Mary Anne Callahan has made to the Chamber and the greater community, along with congratulating our milestone awardees. The event will take place on Wednesday, Sept. 21, beginning at 6 p.m. under the tent at Oscar Swan Country Inn, 1800 W. State Street in Geneva.

Tickets cost $50 per person, which includes food, music, a drink ticket, whiskey tasting by Whiskey Acres Distilling Co. and more. A cash bar will be available. Casual and/or seasonal attire is welcomed. Registration for this event is required. To guarantee your spot, please call (630) 879-7134 or visit https://www.bataviachamber.org/events to register online promptly.
