Water Street Studios Gallery new exhibit: ‘Sherrie Denault & Margie Glass Sula’
Batavia, IL—Water Street Studios’ Dempsey Family Gallery will display the work created by two well-established regional artists, Sherrie Denault and Margie Glass Sula.
Sherri’s mixed-media paintings explore the collision of her materials, which can include India ink, gesso, acrylic paint, rice paper, and thread. She says, “Some works are mainly about the process, the series of decisions, additions, and reductions that make it take shape. And some works are primarily about the entanglement and illusion of thought.”
Margie’s paintings, drawings, and sculptures are inspired by the natural world and reflect our need for the quiet simplicity that world holds. The media she uses ranges from traditional oil on canvas paintings to sculptures created from branches, discarded wood, and sculpted epoxy clays. She says, “Sometimes, I feel we all need to get back down to earth, even if only for a moment.”
The opening reception will be held on March 9th from 6:00-9:00 p.m. In addition to viewing the work and meeting the artists who created it, there will also be small selection of appetizers by Gaetano’s Batavia, a bar featuring beer from Solemn Oath Brewery and wine provided by Bright Angel wines. All proceeds from bar sales go to support arts programming at Water Street Studios.
The exhibit will continue until April 8, 2018.
Upstairs at the Kane County Chronicle Gallery
Water Street Studios’ Resident artist and Gallery Committee Chairman, Steve Sherrell, will be exhibiting a body of work entitled “Ghosts” in the Kane County Chronicle Gallery, located on the second floor of Water Street Studios.
Opening reception will be held Friday, March 9th, from 6:00-9:00 p.m.
The shows in both galleries will be on view during regular public gallery hours: Friday, 2-6 p.m.; and Saturday and Sunday, 12 to 4 p.m. at 160 S. Water Street in Batavia.
